The Winds of Change

Winds of Change

They gathered at the edge of my world
Whispering, then howling,
Then roaring
Moving into me
Pinning my soul
To this particular place
In this particular position.

Danger spoke loudly in my ear,
“Bend now, bow now
or break.”

My heart and mind
Spoke back,
“No, not ever.”
The winds whirled,
Ascending to heaven
Crashing down upon me
Pushing, shoving,
Ripping me open,
Spilling all that I had
Neatly ordered.

Then the winds were gone.

In the distance
I heard them laughing
As they touched my neighbor
With a gentle evening breeze.

“Wait, wait,” I cried.
“Look back here!
Look at what you have done!”

It was too late,
They were gone
And I was left to re-create my world.
